ssSNPer: identifying statistically similar SNPs to aid interpretation of genetic association studies
نویسنده
چکیده
UNLABELLED ssSNPer is a novel user-friendly web interface that provides easy determination of the number and location of untested HapMap SNPs, in the region surrounding a tested HapMap SNP, which are statistically similar and would thus produce comparable and perhaps more significant association results. Identification of ssSNPs can have crucial implications for the interpretation of the initial association results and the design of follow-up studies. Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms and Association Studies: A Few Critical Points
Uncovering DNA sequence variations that correlate with phenotypic changes, e.g., diseases, is the aim of sequence variation studies. Common types sequence variations are Single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP, pronounced snip).SNPs are the third-generation molecular marker. SNP represents a DNA sequence variant of a single base pair with the minor allele occurring in more than 1% of a given popula...
متن کاملGenetic variation in tumour necrosis factor and lymphotoxin is not associated with endometriosis in an Australian sample.
BACKGROUND Tumour necrosis factor (TNF) is a pleiotropic cytokine with a wide range of immunoregulatory effects. Variation in the promoter region of TNF and the neighbouring lymphotoxin alpha (LTA) gene might be associated with endometriosis. METHODS We examined the association between endometriosis and common single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) or haplotypes in the TNF/LTA region in an Au...
متن کاملAssociation study of two single nucleotide polymorphisms rs10757278 and rs1333049 with atherosclerosis, a case-control study from Iraq
Atherosclerosis is one of the most important coronary artery disease (CAD) caused by lipid accumulation, hypertension, smoking, and many other factors such as environmental and genetic factors. It has been recorded that genetic variations in rs10757278 and rs1333049 are correlated with CAD. In the present study, 100 blood samples were collected (50 CAD patients and 50 appeared to be healthy con...
متن کاملArchiLD: Hierarchical Visualization of Linkage Disequilibrium in Human Populations
Linkage disequilibrium (LD) is an essential metric for selecting single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) to use in genetic studies and identifying causal variants from significant tag SNPs. The explosion in the number of polymorphisms that can now be genotyped by commercial arrays makes the interpretation of triangular correlation plots, commonly used for visualizing LD, extremely difficult in p...
متن کاملاز ژنوم تا ژن: مروری بر ژنها و تغییرات ژنتیکی موثر بر بروز سندرم متابولیک
Background: The prevalence of non-communicable disorders such as metabolic syndrome (MetS) is high in developing countries. Metabolic syndrome is a disorder of energy utilization and storage, diagnosed by a co-occurrence of three out of five of the following medical conditions: abdominal (central) obesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting plasma glucose, high serum triglycerides, and l...
